It’s a fact.ย Flying on a plane makes you fart alot more.ย I experienced this first hand on a recent international flight.ย It’s because of the drop in cabin pressure.
A few hours into the flight I felt extremely bloated and knew that I had to release the pressure.ย Since there was the background noise of the engine I knew that the lady sitting next to me wouldn’t be able to hear my farts. She was pretty attractive but I didn’t want to be uncomfortable for several hours so I decided to let fly.ย And once I started I seriously couldn’t stop!ย I proceeded to fart constantly for the next several hours.ย Luckily these weren’t the smelly ones…..at least I couldn’t smell them and my neighbor didn’t react so I guess I was in the clear.
This got me to thinking – how much of the air that we breathe on a plane is fart gas?ย It has to be alot since the gas in our stomach expands 30 percent when flying.ย And this gas has to go somewhere.ย Here is how the math breaks down.
The average person farts .5 to 1.5 liters of air per day. So a flight on an Airbus 380 which seats 525 people from London to Singapore, a flight that takes almost 13 hours would create an amazing 368 liters of farts.ย The same flight going from London to Miami would generate 284 liters of flatulence.
So the next time you are on a flight just remember that you are surrounded by and breathing in lots and lots of farts.ย So sit back and let fly!
Also, I wonder why airlines don’t infuse the cushions on planes with charcoal filters to mask the odor of all that gas being released in the cabin.ย Could be an interesting upgrade!
Wow, that is absolute amazing!
